#15...Vancouver and #16...Dallas. THE GOOD, THE BAD, and THE UGLY

The House Band:

The Recaps:

Vancouver

Dallas

The Gist:

I was at the Thursday game against Vancouver, and they were TERRIBLE. Just terrible. No emotion, no chemistry, and they couldn't complete a breakout pass. I mean, it could be worse. At least they could attempt to break out of the zone:

It wasn't that bad, but it was ugly. So understandably, things were a bit on the negative side- especially since 4 days before we knocked off the Penguins, in Pittsburgh, to win their 2nd game in a roll. I don't even think they announced the attendance that night.
What a difference two days make; We just plain took it to Dallas. The fluky-Nick Schultz-score on his own goal-goal aside, the Wild just dominated. It was an impressive win, and although we went through the obligatory "Nik Backstrom please bail us the fuck out" phase, its still a win.
At a cost.
Steve Ott hit Petr Sykora with a "questionable" hit; Sykora is essentially out "indefinitely."

Stream of Conciousness
-Our best line right now? Clutterbuck-Brodziak-Kobasew. Its good, but maybe its an indictment on the other lines. However, I think this line is a microcosm of the the style of play that Chuck Fletcher and Todd Richards wants to bring. Also, I got to mention, Kyle Brodziak is just excelling in this system, alot of which has to do with the past experience and subsequent trust that he has with T.Rich. There might not be much flash, but he's awfully workman-like and its paying off.
-Its refreshing to see Marty Havlat SHOOT the puck. I get that he's a setup man at heart, but he didn't score 29 goals last year off of fluky bounces. Its understandable that his play is lacking because he kind find chemistry with his linemates (the revolving door) but that doesn't hide the fact that he's been passing up prime scoring chances for passes. That doesn't just go him; this team as a whole is prone to trying to "make the perfect pass." Shoot the damn puck, which brings me to...
-...loving Cal Clutterbuck as the triggerman on the power play. He just doesn't have the acumen to dangle and distribute the puck, so he's just going to shoot. Well, when you have the a.) heavy shot to be effective, and the b.) speed and defensive ability to recover if something were to go awry.
- Closed circuit to the sound guys at the Xcel; don't ever play that "HIYOOOOOOO" sound effect again. Just don't.

Next on the Rocket Docket

In Toronto, against the lowly Maple Leafs (somewhere an English teacher is shaking her head at that) after attending the 2009 Hockey Hall Of Fame Inductions. This should be a win....right?

I agree... if there were points awarded for great passing I would spend less time yelling at my TV. But there are not, so I yell several profane un-lady like things and ask what the F are you doing? Shoot the puck
